Femina ornamentalis

 Femina ornamentalis

In the summer of 2023 I was invited to submit a paper for London Arts-Based Research Centre’s inaugural conference ‘Women Who Create’. As I began to write my text which I called Femina ornamentalis, I also began creating collages with watercolour, Japanese inks, graphite and gold dust on paper. Writing and making art always go hand in hand for me. As I write, images appear and as I make art, concepts evolve. Making artworks helps develop my thinking and vice versa, writing helps my creative imagination become more generative. So concepts, images and texts are always in a close symbiotic relationship with each other. I created four works on paper, Feed The Sacred, Feed The Demon, Feed The Pearl, and Feed The Vine.

The text work is to be published shortly by Elyssar press, in an anthology edited by Roula- Maria Dib, founder of London Arts-Based Research Centre. Echoes of Her: Women and Creativity Unbound will be a ‘collection celebrating women’s creative spirit across cultures and eras. From challenging colonial hierarchies to exploring the divine feminine, this book will feature diverse creative voices in essays and poems that redefine the world through the feminine and the arts.’
